Dog Training….Unraveled

Welcome to our world!

When the idea for this blog was born, it was to be a super duper reference and resource for all things dog. Product reviews, news, health information, and most of all real life training tips and advice. People would flock from all over the internet to gaze upon my brilliance. Millions of dollars would roll in from eager advertisers, and I would spend my days in the comfort of my own home writing entertaining and thought provoking articles on dogs and their human counterparts. Hey, it’s my fantasy, ok?

Then reality checked in. Those websites already exist. Dogster has a fantastic “everything dog” website (check out our pages there!), news can be found at itchmo and several other places, and there are about a jillion websites on dog health, diet, and care. I did find there to be a noticeable lack of good dog training websites. One or two, yes, but for the most part they are condescending marketing ploys with just enough information to tease you into signing up for their “Free, 10 step program to a perfect dog!” Except that is will cost you S&H, and oh, ya, there’s the $50 charge if you want the WHOLE program. It’s sad, really, treating the average dog owner like a flaming imbecile.

So, Modern Dog will be dedicated to sharing things I’ve learned, seen, and done in 19 years of professionally training dogs. I’ll tell you all the super “secret” techniques (hint * there are none.) I will tell you, honestly, what goes on behind the training room doors. Why your dog listens beautifully to your trainer, and completely ignores you. Real answers to real questions without all the PC crap.

Modern Dog will be my take on the doggie universe, where it’s going, how it’s changing. There may be some random thoughts here and there, but since dogs are my livelihood, my hobby, and my passion - mostly the dogs will rule. I will hopefully entertain you with stories of my clients and their quirky dogs (or selves), and above all, I hope to make you look at your dog in a slightly new light - so you’ll go find them and give them a hug. They deserve that, and more, for putting up with us on a daily basis.

My name is Michelle Penix, and this is my life. The good, the bad, the hairy, the slobbering, and the ones who really do eat poo - people wonder how it is I don’t love them all. Would you want to cuddle up with a creature that just ate a mouthful of shit?
