Dog Training….Unraveled

Meet Flash!!

Here is my latest project! Cute isn’t he? Another Border Collie! I picked Flash up at the South County Animal Shelter last week, and he is quite a cool guy. I went looking for drug dog candidates, took out a few who didn’t even bother to chase the ball and was about to leave when a kennel attendant said, “hey, how about that dog in #1? He’s never going to get out of here, he’s nuts.” Bring him out, let’s see what he’s got.

Lovely! He’s crazy, bouncing around, crazy for the toys - chased every ball I threw and tried to collect them all in one spot, and play tug like a mad man. He’s perfect, so I signed the papers and arranged to pick him up the next day after his neuter. Named him Flash, cause he’s fast and jumpy and it just fit. He’s a great little dog. Waits in his crate with no problem, likes the other dogs, and plays ball endlessly.

My hope is to get Flash a job as a drug dog, but if that doesn’t work out, then I will see how he does with sheep, and if that doesn’t go, perhaps we’ll find him a home doing flyball or agility. He’s a great dog that had been sitting at the shelter for OVER A MONTH! and didn’t have much of a chance of getting adopted by a normal family. He’s had no training, and no manners, jumps up, and acts like a fool. He can’t be much more than a year old judging by his teeth, and he is learning things here very quickly. I like him a lot, and am glad to help him get a better life.
