Dog Training….Unraveled

Pugtoberfest ’08!!!!

Yesterday we attended the first Pugtoberfest event put on by Pug Rescue of San Diego. It was a great little event – hosted in a volunteers yard, with home made pug beers, pretzels and other yummies. They had a “pug yard” up for the little beasties to have some off leash play time, but, pugs being pugs, most of them stood around staring pathetically at their owners.

My dogs were no exception, pugs got tossed into the pug pen, only to stare at me like they were being tortured – “Why are we here? There are DOGS in here. You are eating OUT THERE? WHY ARE WE IN HERE??!” This lasted about 10 minutes, until I found a chair and sat down and Teak promptly launched herself over the side and out of the pen onto my lap. Stunning onlookers with her amazing agility skills, she did it in one leap. Then of course, Jester had to come out too, cause how could I possibly leave him in there to rot? If you look closely at the second and third picture here, you’ll see the utter disgust on Jester’s face and the mild panic on Teak’s. “WHY are we here again?”

Karma and Dyson didn’t get stuck in the pug pen, I was worried Dyson would kick all the water out of their little swimming pool, and Karma, ya, like she would put up with that. D wore his “Security” t-shirt, which everyone thought was cute, and Karma shoved her head under any available hand – “Perhaps you would like to pet the collie now kind stranger?”

All in all, it was a great event, good turnout, raised lost of money for Pug Rescue, lots of nice dogs and fun people. Enough party time to have my dogs completely wiped out for the night – yes! Everyone marveled at how skinny my poor neglected pugs are – seriously, they were the skinniest ones there – so many little fat, snorty dogs – I feel bad for the ones who can’t hardly breathe. I try to tell them that pugs CAN be athletes, but no one really believes me. Oh well.

And for those of you who are checking – No, we don’t have a baby yet. She’s taking her damn sweet time.

  1. Once again, you have me laughing me booty off!
I ment to tell you, looking at the other pictures you have posted here, that your pugs look healthier than any pug I’ve ever seen.
My Dad’s pugs were always really fat, and always snorted very loud.
When Melina was little we’d go to grandpa’s house and before we’d get in the driveway she’d be worried about the “monsters” attacking her.
The girl literally lept from the garage door to the couch, squealing the whole way cause the monsters were after her. It was the snorting.
Poor Melina, standing on the couch, while the snorting li’l monsters tried to claw their way to her. Too fat to make it they just did these weird little hops (snorting and barking in a rather bronchitisy sounding way) not making it onto the couch.
    Poor things.

Your dogs look fantastic. All of them.

  2. uggg! I hate it when I re-read something and I spell stuff wrong!
