Lisa, thank you for that great story! This is the first time I’ve stopped by here but was truly engrossed and could palpably feel the emotion here. I don’t know how you could look at Petunia’s face as she drove away in the new family’s car. Glad she’s back with you though and I wish you the best of luck with all the elder dogs you’ve got on your hands shortly!

Petunia has always been one of my favorites. I saw the wisdom and gentleness in her eyes when I first met her, coming to pick up Flynt. She’s what they call an “old soul” and you have been chosen.

Someday she may teach Quinn a very hard and valuable lesson; my kids lost their father when they were 4 and 5, but due to the wonderful and loving dogs and pets in their lives who they loved and grew old and died and who’s lifeless bodies they buried in the yard, they understood even at that young age what death was and were able to cope with their father’s death much better than most. In their short lives dogs teach us so much.

Petunia may be “useless” but she gives far more than she takes and she will leave her gentle little pawprint forever in both your and Quinn’s hearts. Mark my words, you will never forget Petunia.
